Twin Cities Business Magazine reports that "[a] recent report by The Brookings Institution found that the Twin Cities produced an average of 3,068 patents annually between 2007 and March 2012, the ninth-most among 358 metro areas across the country" thanks in part to numerous patents having Minnesota inventors with Honeywell International Inc.

HTC Corp. settled all global patent lawsuits with Apple Inc., including lawsuits involving a patent portfolio prosecuted by Fogg & Powers LLC.  The writers of a Washington Post article regarding the settlement commented that a: 

case before the ITC may have forced Cook to the negotiating table after a judge said Apple probably would face difficulty getting a series of HTC patents invalidated. HTC bought those patents, covering technology in LTE high-speed wireless devices, from ADC Telecommunications Inc. for $75 million.

Analyst Jeff Pu is quoted in the article as indicating that “[t]he settlement is a big surprise and is likely due to HTC’s LTE patents, which it bought from ADC last year, as Apple’s LTE patents are relatively weak.” Read full article.

 HTC Corp of Taiwan has purchased a worldwide portfolio of patents prosecuted by Fogg & Powers.  The portfolio of 82 patents, covering wireless technologies, sold for $75 million.
