Dr. Barbara Foley Barenburg is a physicist and a registered patent agent practicing in the areas of optics, electro-optics and electronic technologies including telecommunication, imaging systems, RFID systems, antennae design and computer software.

For two and a half years prior to joining Fogg & Powers, Barbara was a consultant writing patents for Cardinal Law Group and writing technical reports for the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association. Previously, Barbara worked at Motorola Laboratories in Tempe, Arizona for over nine years and at GTE Laboratories (Verizon) in Waltham, Massachusetts for twelve years. During that time, Barbara was involved in projects covering a wide range of technologies including optical switches and optical amplifiers for fiber optic systems, optical parallel transceiver systems, microfludics for biotechnology applications, novel epitaxial growth, and microphotonics.

Barbara is an inventor on 20 issued patents. She earned the Distinguished Innovator Award from Motorola and the Leslie H. Warner Technical Achievement Award from GTE.

Barbara earned her bachelors degree in Physics from San Francisco State University and her PhD in Physics from Brandeis University. Barbara is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

David D. Freitag is a registered patent agent practicing in the areas of electrical and electronic technologies.

Prior to joining Fogg & Powers, David served as a software engineer for several organizations in the Twin Cities area, including Nonin Medical, Wavecrest Corporation, and Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Division.  David’s primary responsibilities involved development and verification of embedded and user interface software for use in medical devices, signal integrity analyzers, and manufacturing test systems. 

David earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from North Dakota State University and a diploma in electrical engineering technology from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science & Technology, concentrating in control systems and electrical transmission and distribution.  He is licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Minnesota and is a member of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association.
