About David

David, a founding member of the firm, is a registered patent attorney practicing in the areas of telecommunications, electronic circuits, electric power, avionics and navigation and sensors, among other technologies. David's practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, opinions, client counseling and litigation support. David built this skill set by working in a variety of professional settings over the past three decades.

David’s professional journey began as an associate in the Intellectual Property Section of a large general practice firm in Dallas, Texas.  There, David was mentored by seasoned attorneys and worked the grueling hours expected of a young associate cutting his teeth prosecuting and litigating inventions in complex technologies for top tier clients like Texas Instruments.

After a few years of private practice, David opted to move in-house as patent counsel for AT&T Bell Laboratories in Whippany, New Jersey supporting the wireless telecommunications portion of AT&T Network Systems Division.  Working side-by-side with the business and technical teams, David learned how business considerations interplay with patent strategy.  When AT&T surprisingly announced the breakup of the company into three entities, David reevaluated his options and moved back to private practice; this time with a small and growing patent prosecution boutique.

Back in private practice, David assisted clients to ferret out inventions during the product development cycle.  Meeting with engineers, David and his colleagues identified potential inventions and assisted in evaluating their prospective value to the client’s business.  Additionally, David developed arguments and provided recommendations to clients to fend off patent assertions from third parties.

In 2002, David launched this firm with a small group of patent professionals dedicated to protecting the valuable innovations of our clients.  After nearly two decades of service, one project stands out from all the rest.  This project involved a patent family that was nearing the end of prosecution when it was discovered that the technology disclosed in the application was being used in modern wireless telecommunications networks.  Over the next several years, David led a team of attorneys at the firm, in cooperation with the client’s litigation counsel, to create a portfolio of over 100 patents.  David and his team assisted the client in presenting the portfolio to potential buyers with the portfolio ultimately being sold for $75M dollars.

Outside of work, David enjoys golfing, running, cooking, and spending time with his family.
